back again with a new project

well hello again after a long absence, but we haven't been idle.........
we ended up conducting a lot of communication towards the end of the Reflexive Archive project either via email or F2F. The evaluation of the data we gathered threw up some interesting results, and the report is up on the Higher Education Academy, Art Design and Media subject Centre reports pages.

Rather a long url I'm afraid, but the link they provide is broken.
We also presented findings, and more about the Open Curriculum in Fine Art pedagogies at several conferences;
CLTAD 4th International in NY April 2008
HEA Annual in Liverpool July 2008
LOGOS (part of EDEN network)in Budapest in January 2009
forthcoming is Lisbon later in 2009.
Papers from these conferences are generally available from their websites.

Since the interest generated by this project, the HEA ADM subject centre has awarded the KU/NTU team of Rob, Lucy and Terry, a further small grant to pursue some research into the relationship teaching to practice for the artist/lecturer. We hope to make these available more widely as short videos, which should help open out some debates into Art & Design pedagogy, and the place of research within the Art & Design
HEI. More soon..............

Pageflakes resources page

To find the pageflakes site for our NY presentation and other resources go to pageflakes.com and search for the page CLTADNY, alternatively, drop me an email and I'll send you a direct invite to the location

more SL developments

I've been away from the blogface for a little while now, due to illness, but I have just learned how to make objects in SL and upload and apply textures - what this means is that I have been able to place some interactive screens which appear as freestanding images in the second floor space in the CISM building that we will be using for the project. The KU students are all signed up, and the Live Lecture blog with Mark Gubb going great guns. Rob's got a couple of NTU students keen to take part in the SL project, and we're hoping that some KU students will take part in the
Live Lecture blog before it finishes.
Alun's books have arrived and look really exciting, as soon as I have more resources from him, those will also be placed in the CISM room.
Rob (Doctor Cho) and I were relaxing in a nice tree house the other day as we practiced walking and flying, a great relief after various technical issues with sorting out the PowerPoint and Pageflakes stuff for the MY conference. One can get very tired of the conflicts between the different platforms.

Friday, 14 March 2008

I think we have to abandon the Ning site, as there is something in the scripting on that site that prevents the pop-up video from working properly and the embedded image, although perfectly okay on Safari on a Mac, is 'squared off' on IE on a PC. In addition, various buttons and functions are not available on the Mac browser (Safari and Firefox)

this is a nuisance, as the first pilot project begins on Monday, and today is Friday

ways of archiving in SL

I've been trying a few things out in SL, how to archive stills, and moving image, and it all seems to be pretty easy to do, hence the rash of new pictures. I'm also looking at some different sites to try and get a sense of how much emotional involvement one can feel with SL. From a personal point of view, I like coming to this small area which has loads of plants, although recently the site owners have been uploading lots of artwork that's not really my thing, which for me rather spoils the restful atmosphere. Last time I visited, there were a bunch of avatars doing tai chi in the woods, - impressive avatar control there! You may have noticed that I'm not a human, which was a rash decision when I first joined, I do however, have a KU T shirt, which I hope lends me a little dignity.

new ning sites

we've now got two ning sites hosting streamed video and discussion fora, one for the NTU LIVE LECTURES, and one to support the Second Life events, 3COMMUNIQUES. If anyone would like an invitation to join these, please contact me or Rob.

registering the students

we had a problem free registration session for a group of 7 Fine Art students this afternoon in the Flexible Learning Centre at KU, they all seem pretty enthusiastic about the possibilities of the pilot study.I've ordered some copies of Alun Rowlands book,'3 Communiques',http://www.bookworks.org.uk/asp/published.asp?sub=new&letter=a&page=2 which should arrive next week.
